‘Done’ - Music Video

‘Done’ is a song of my own creation, and follows the story of a young man attempting to regain his sense of reality after a traumatic relationship. To illustrate this, I wished to create a music video with friends and contacts that I had made throughout my course at UTS.

The video draws inspiration from works such as Joji’s “Slow Dancing in the Dark” and Joseph Kosinski’s “Oblivion” to present an artistic representation of our protagonist’s emotions, and convey isolation and emotion through space and colour.

Ninja

Ninja was the first short film that I directed, being produced as part of my final year at University. The film is a Sci-Fi Thriller, following four strangers who partake in a popular televised game-show for the 'ultimate prize'.

It was born from a combination of my love of sci-fi films, and a determination to create a uniquely ambitious project that pushed the boundaries of what a student film at UTS could be. I am heavily inspired by science fiction and fantasy works such as Tron: Legacy, Blade Runner and Doctor Who, and pushed to create a piece that challenged tropes developed within these genres.

Stylistically, I am particularly fond of Edgar Wright’s work, and the sharp cuts and stylised visuals of films such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Hot Fuzz influence my works immensely. With many of the techniques used in Ninja, I hope to remind audiences of films like these, whilst challenging their expectations with a powerful and unique plot line.

Ninja is a story of misplaced trust, individual strength, and corporate greed – wrapped in a dystopian sci-fi setting. With this work I hope to impart on audiences an opportunity for debate, to determine who is truly in the right or wrong, and whether the stakes set up are truly as high as they seem. By leaving plot points open to interpretation, I wish to foster discussion between viewers, and allow them to investigate the true message of the film in their own way.

Ninja was officially selected as part of the Sydney & Melbourne Lift-Off Film Festivals, being presented in the “Judges Select” and “New Voice Shorts” categories.
