Communications Assistant

UTS

After a brief period as a Student Ambassador, I was offered a new position as a media specialist for the Faculty’s Marketing and Communication Unit. Available here are some of the public-facing projects I worked on.

Postgraduate Advertisements

The Master of Strategic Communication is an esteemed Postgraduate degree at UTS, providing students with developed knowledge of communication strategy and practices. I was responsible for shooting and editing advertisements for this degree, including several snippets designed for Social Media use.

This project required effective stakeholder management, production skills and a developed understanding of target audiences.

I was the sole producer on the majority of this project, with an additional editor taking over upon my departure from the role. As a side note, I also filmed all B-roll used in this project.

FASSlane Audit

Prior to my exit from the role, I coordinated a complete audit of the FASSlane website, an Undergraduate hub containing information for prospective students. This site was used as a ‘one-stop shop’ for information on courses in UG Communication, Education and International Studies, and as such had a wealth of content varying in quality.

To organise this, I worked to create a complete site-map to categorise content and check for gaps, before working with the team to generate and publish updated content. This was a strong experience in project management and I believe it was highly effective in coordinating the desired change.

Story Adverts

As part of an Undergraduate reach campaign, I produced story adverts designed to link our offered courses and potential careers. These adverts were then distributed through various social media platforms.

Social Adverts

For a wider campaign aimed at a Postgraduate market, several small animations were created. These pieces connected degrees and careers to successful alumni, allowing prospective students to better evaluate their career path.

On The Ground

In a bid to refresh our “Life in the FASS Lane” landing page, I was requested to provide a report on areas of improvement for the site, specifically around lacking content. In review, it was found that student-life content was largely absent from the site, and thus On The Ground was born; A student-led, student-focused series covering the opportunities available on campus.

I was responsible for the complete creation of the first two seasons of the show (18 episodes total) from scripting to production and composition, and it was a resounding success, garnering over 25,000 views before the great COVID crisis halted its distribution.

UTS Journalism 2019 Reel

At the close of 2019, the School of Journalism requested a compiled Highlight Reel showcasing several key achievements throughout the year. This piece was to be delivered to internal and external stakeholders, alongside being used as a piece of advertising material for the school. Embracing the corporate show-reel animated style and blending it with the UTS branding, this piece was brought together using supplied footage and smooth animation.

Kickstart 2019.

Kickstart was a new initiative for the faculty, providing an opportunity for prospective students to experience uni life through workshops and informational activities in a more in-depth manner than Open Day. This video was intended to capture the spirit of the event, and showcase students enjoying the day.

This project was shot by a colleague & I, and edited by yours truly.

STEM Day 2019.

STEM Day is an early recruitment event providing High School students with the opportunity to experience workshops of the university experience whilst in Year 10, to highlight areas of interest and realise their potential career paths.

I was responsible for capturing the FASS-related activities on the day, and compiling the best moments for this highlight video.

Faculty Trailer.

As part of Kickstart 2019, I created a trailer for the faculty to excite participants for the day ahead. The trailer was then repurposed to be used as a channel trailer on the faculty’s YouTube channel.
